I was very happy to be juried into this annual prestigious competition sponsored by the Outdoor Painters Society and hosted by the Galveston Historical Society. The contest has 44 artists from Texas and other states competing in several Plein Air categories and having a $15,000 first prize.
I got to go to Big Bend National Park with several OPS members on a “group paint out” last month.
It was a great experience and I’m looking forward to seeing and painting with some of these artists in Galveston...

This show will be for the Center for Coastal Studies Laguna Madre Field Station Artist in Residence Program. I was fortunate to have been selected to be the second artist to be honored. This will be the first show of two currently scheduled shows to showcase my work created by my week long stay and experience of living on a spoil island on the Laguna Madre. The Laguna , a hyper-saline estuary, is a wild area, and known for, among other things, as being the nursery for the ecosystems for the gulf and bays of the area. It acts as a connection between the mainland and the Gulf of Mexico. It is full of fish and fowl of many varieties, and has some of the most beautiful skies anywhere. Part of the proceeds of sales of my paintings will go to help support the LMFS, which provides a convenient and cost effective field base from which university scientists and researchers can operate. Their research is crucial to the health and sustainability of the many natural wonders and to the fragile ecology of the Laguna Madre.

I was recently honored to be asked to show my art at an exhibit at our local convention center in Downtown Corpus Christi. I have 36 pieces on display and it became apparent to me as we hung the show that the theme was the South Texas landscape , which is heavily weighted toward the huge number and variety of birds that have made the city the " Birdiest in the country"....
Hope you enjoy it!
